New Fire Headquarters, Summit, New Jersey

New Fire Headquarters, Summit, New Jersey

This study looked at various options for the location and layout of the new Fire Headquarters and established the feasibility of a potential site next to the main parking garage for the train station.

The future station lays out as naturally a two story structure along the street housing all the firematic functions on the ground floor near the apparatus bays; the offices and meeting rooms at the opposite end of the building, and sleeping rooms and related spaces on the second floor.

The doors to the apparatus bays are floor to ceiling glass to bring in daylight and to allow visibility for both firefighters and the public. As respected as firefighting is, it’s still important for the residents of Summit to be able to see into the station and appreciate the professionalism of the company.

The site was determined to be well suited for the new facility, with ample space for turning and good access at both ends for apparatus leaving and returning to the new Fire HQ, and sufficient outdoor space for both outdoor training and parking.
